ayne L. Smith III ("Chip") is of counsel with the firm, practicing in the areas of labor and employment, commercial litigation, general business matters, and real estate and business transactions. Chip is a native of St. Louis and graduated from Denison University with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. Before returning to St. Louis, Chip was a program analyst with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration in Washington D.C., where he focused on strategic, operational, and financial planning. Chip graduated from Saint Louis University with a Juris Doctor and a Masters in Business Administration, and he is also a licensed Missouri Real Estate Broker.

Chip advises companies on matters involving entity selection, formation and operation, capital structure, fundraising, mergers & acquisitions, intellectual property rights and staffing and personnel issues. In this capacity, Chip reviews and negotiates purchase and sale agreements, lease agreements, employment agreements, non-compete and non-solicitation agreements, shareholder agreements, buy/sell agreements, licensing agreements, construction contracts and loan documents. Chip also prosecutes and defends claims arising under these types of agreements, as well as related common law and statutory claims. Chip is involved in the acquisition, development, leasing, and sale of commercial, industrial and residential properties for corporate and individual clients, and he draws on his diverse background to provide clients with a unique perspective on legal and business issues.
